Free alternatives to Adobe Creative Suite

If you or your Library are in need of publishing software like InDesign or editing images for your website or publications like Photoshop, but don't have the funds for it, here are some free open source alternatives to the Adobe Creative Suite. Photoshop alternative GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) Image editor. Probably the best free alternative to Photoshop in my opinion. Available for multiple OS. Illustrator alternative Inkscape A free vector graphic editor alternative. Also an alternative to Corel Draw, Freehand, and Xara X.  Available for multiple OS. InDesign alternative Scribus A free page layout program for desktop publishing. Available for multiple OS. Dreamweaver alternative Aptana Studio An open source development tool for the open web. Available for multiple OS.

Web archives

Web archives are important as it collects parts of the World Wide Web to ensure that the information on the site is preserved in an archive for future researchers, historians, and the public. Library staff may be interested in surfing through web archives for documents, research, or to locate past information and records. I find it most useful in Document Delivery, cataloguing and for research. A comprehensive  list of web archives initiatives from around the world is available on Wikipedia. Wikipedia also provides a list of online archives . I have extracted some of web archive sites and listed them below. Wayback Machine "Save a Page" feature also allows the public to save a website not already listed on the Wayback Machine. Pandora Archive A national web archive for the preservation of Australia's online publications. Australian Government Web Archive Complements the National Library of Australia's PANDORA Archive.
